There is a similar theme throughout this site of trying to give you bang for your buck. So when it comes to the best time to travel to USA from Australia, or to put it another way the cheapest time to travel, then travelling during the quieter times is the way to go. Why? Generally, flights to hotel rooms are cheaper and the destinations are usually quieter so there are less crowds to compete with.  An example of a quieter/cheaper time or ‘off peak’ would be going to the US is November. The flights are pretty much the lowest that you will find, accommodation very affordable and the crowds at all the major attractions are significantly less. I remember our first trip to the US. It was November ‘94. We went to LEGOLAND in San Diego and the park was pretty much deserted. The kids got on the rides really quickly, there weren’t any lines for food and you really had the run of the park.

Obviously the problem for families going during off peak times is that kids are at school. You know what? Education is also about experience. Many a teacher has told me what a great experience it would be for the kids and that they will be able to learn new things. It’s very true. Our kids have seen and learnt a lot during our holidays. It is also great family bonding time. A chance to not worry about anyone else except ourselves. This also goes for couples and friends.

If you have to travel during our holiday periods or other countries holiday periods, plan and book as early as possible. You are definitely going to pay more but the earlier you book, the better prices you will get. This is especially the case for flights. Airlines step their seat prices so there may be 20 flights at the cheapest price and when they’re gone, they step up to the next price and it continues until there are no longer discounted tickets. Booking early is the key! Another way to take holidays at the cheapest prices but utilizing school holidays is to go a week or so before school holidays and then come back a week or so after. You can get great deals doing it this way.
