A trip to the US = ‘Awesome shopping’
There is no doubt that a bonus when travelling to the US is that buying pretty much anything (eating out excluded) is cheaper than a lot of other countries and definitely Australia. Everything from soft drinks to alcohol, tooth paste to tools are soooo much cheaper but the real savings come when shopping for clothes, fashion accessories, jewelry and footwear, the stuff that most women love and some blokes do as well! My wife loves to shop and always saves her pennies to go to the outlets. She’ll bug me until i agree to take her and when she gets there, well let’s just say there’s a lot of sitting around on my part. I’m not a good shopper! Keep in mind that the dollar does make a difference when buying things so they may not be as great of a bargain than they potentially could be but more often than not, you’ll still be buying cheaper than home.
My ‘Must Do’ when travelling to the US is a trip to the ‘Premium Outlets’. There’s pretty much an outlet in most states and definitely in the main tourist areas. They’re full of the leading brands like, Adidas, Nike, Armani, Banana Republic, Kelvin Klein, Diesel, Hurley, Guess and the list goes on. Some of the things you’ll find are Levi Jeans for around $40, Hurley T’s for $15, Van shoes for $30 and leading sneaker brands for a lot less than we can get in OZ! To find ‘Premium Outlet’ locations near your destination, click here. You can sign up to their VIP club, and you’ll keep up to date with everything that’s going on as well as any other deals, competitions and more.
For shopping enthusiasts, there is a major sale called ‘Black Friday’ which happens in November. We were lucky to be there during the sale on a previous visit and the prices are even better. There are seriously major bargains to be had so if you are planning a trip and love your shopping, plan a trip with this in mind. As an added bonus, November is a great time to fly. November 27 is 2015’s Black Friday.
My tips on going to the outlets? Pack light. Take what you need to get by and then fill your suitcase with the stuff you buy. If possible, wait until later in the trip to go to the outlets if you’re travelling around (lighter bags). Also prepare to spend a whole day there. There’s heaps to see and plenty to buy so as I said, pack light, have fun and don’t forget to bring plenty of cash!
